Zebra Mussels Found in Waupaca Chain O' Lakes





This story has been on the local radio station....

Waupaca County DNR Warden Ted Dremel received a complaint May 17, 2010 of Zebra Mussels on the Waupaca Chain.

The cinder block in the pictures above was found in Round Lake by Becker Marine.

Brenda Nordin, Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator and Program Assistant, Bureau of Watershed and Law Enforcement, Wisconsin DNR confirmed in an EM that the pictures do show Zebra Mussels

Why is There Screens Over the Storm Drains on Hwys Q and QQ?


According to the Waupaca County Highway department, Highways Q and QQ will be "coated" later this week so the screens over the storm drains are in place to help keep the chips - gravel that covers the coating, from going down into the storm water drains.

Trout Stocked this Spring on Waupaca Chain O' Lakes


The Wisconsin DNR updated information on where and how many legal-sized trout were stocked this spring for the 2010 inland fishing season. According to the DNR web site, 1,000 Brown and 1,000 Rainbow Trout were stocked in Bass Lake on the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes. The trout stocked are between 16 and 18 months old and are typically at least 9 inches long. The DNR tries to make sure that 80 to 90 percent of these fish are legal size or better.

"Busy Bee" Hwy Q - Why was it Named the Busy Bee?


According to Paulette Mittelsteadt current owner of the “Busy Bee” property, who was a “carhop” (pictured above) as a youngster, when her parents ran the root beer stand:

"The Root Beer stand was painted yellow and black for obvious reasons, there was a large amount of bees in the area, that also played a part in the name."

New Home Begins to Rise From the Ashes, on Columbia Lake





You may remember, a devastating fire totally destroyed a home on Columbia Lake, Waupaca Chain O' Lakes, last year. Well, the home is being rebuilt, by the same couple who owned the property at the time of the fire.

New Log Homes Take Shape on Limekiln Lake



Two new log homes being built by Strongwood Log Homes of Waupaca, are nearing completion on the shore of Limekiln Lake, Waupaca Chain O' Lakes. Located across the road from the Casino, the land these new homes are being built on is part of “At the Shores of Limekiln Lake” subdivision.

The developer of this parcel had the property rezoning from commercial to resident and subdivided into 6 building lots in 2009, each with 100 feet of frontage on Limekiln Lake. An individual purchased 3 of the lots in 2009 and is now constructing two Strongwood log homes.

Simpson's Smokers' Dining Area Gets a Breath of Fresh Air


A breath of fresh air, fresh carpet, fresh wall covering and other fresh decorating are all part of Simpson’s Restaurant, downtown Waupaca, going smoke-free. One of the dining areas, previously designated for smoking, has been totally renovated with a fresh new look. New carpeting was also installed throughout most the restaurant. Ask owner Carey Simpson why masons should wear gloves next time you see him.
