Clear Water Harbor Cooks up More Kitchen Space

You may have noticed Clear Water Harbor Bar and Restaurant is doing a bit remodeling this fall. The Meighan family, along with local architect Terrance W. Martin are working together to make improvements in the restaurant’s kitchen area.

A permanent slab will support the newly expanded kitchen, the goal of which is to double the size of the grill and preparation area. Maureen Meighan stated that their goal is “to better serve our customers with more efficient kitchen operations”. “The integrity of the indoor and outdoor bar areas will not be comprimised”.

The Meighan’s are working with local builder Dan Wanty to complete the project before their annual reopening for the 2010 season.

State Shoreland Zoning Bill Changes, Before Leaving the Dock

The State Assembly Natural Resources Board modified shoreland zoning rules set forth by the Wisconsin DNR in June.

Two key changes involve:

Set shoreland standards closer than before – within 300 feet of a lake, river or stream rather than within 1,000 feet of a water body.

Limited the expansion of an existing home, which is closer than 75 feet from the water. Under the committee's action, a property owner can build a second story or build vertically if an existing structure is at least 35 feet from the water. But, an owner can’t expand the building’s footprint horizontally within 75 feet of the shoreline – something that would have been allowed in rules the DNR had proposed in June.

The changes came after modifications were requested by the State Assembly Natural Resources Committee which voted 7 to 0 for the changes. This committee reviews regulations from the Department of Natural Resources. The committee's Chairperson is Rep. Spencer Black (D-Madison.

Illegal to Transport - Aquatic Plants

To help stem the spread of invasive aquatic plants, Wisconsin Governor Doyle recently signed a bill into law that requires all aquatic plants and animals be removed from boats or any other equipment before it is transported on public highways.

This bill is a significant change to previous law. It is difficult to tell the difference between invasive aquatic plants and non-invasive aquatic plants so this law makes it illegal to transport any plant matter on boats or any other equipment on public highways.

For the last several years, the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes property owners association has deployed a volunteer program at boat landings to help prevent invasive species plants from being brought into the lakes. And, the Chain Association and the Waupaca Chain District have worked together in the past and also today on a program of monitoring and spraying to help kill invasive species plants already in the waters of the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes.
